The IBA Hawaii Regional tour is sanctioned by IBA International (the world’s official bodyboarding organization) as a regional series and there will be four divisions in the tour:

Men’s Pro Women’s Pro Junior Pro (17 and under) Dropknee.

In addition to over $10,000 in cash and prizes, points from the 2013 IBA Hawaii Tour will be accumulated toward entry and automatic seeds into the 2014 IBA International Pipeline Pro held in February.

The tour will operate under the IBA International Rule Handbook and at the present time, 2013 will have at least two tour stops. The first competition will be held at Sandy Beach or Makapuu (South Shore Mobile) at the end of Summer and the second event will be at Keau’s (Westside Mobile) in early Winter. It is possible a third event will be held in the 2013 calendar year. Administrative and Marketing Director for the IBA Hawaii Tour Norm Skorge states, “Our goal is to put on a quality event series in the best conditions possible at great bodyboarding wave venues with sufficient holding periods to maximize rider performance.”

Former Professional and World Champion Bodyboarder Ben Severson is the IBA Hawaii Tour Event Director. “Hawaii arguably has not only the best bodyboarders but also wave conditions in the world. It just makes sense to have a professional tour here in the islands to showcase our local talent. It’s an exciting time for bodyboarders in Hawaii.” Nine Time World Champion and 11 time Pipe Champion Mike Stewart agrees, adding “There is so much local bodyboarding talent that will finally have an opportunity to show their skills and at the same time have a chance to make some cash for their efforts. My brands Science bodyboards, MS Viper and Gyroll are honored and excited about the opportunity to sponsor the IBA Hawaii Tour. We are in this for the long haul and envision building this contest series to having 6-8 events in a calendar year and tour stops on all islands. I can see the IBA Hawaii Tour progressing Hawaiian bodyboarding in a big way giving our Hawaiian talent the chance to be a huge force on the international bodyboard scene.
