2014 World Bodyboarding Tour and Pipe Challenge confirmed.
The APB (Association of Professional Bodyboarders) are proud to announce that the World Bodyboarding Tour will continue in 2014 with confirmation of the first event in Hawaii – the 2014 Pipe Challenge from February 18th – 28th. (Trials 12th / 16th)
The new star rating system tour will revert back to the original format that was used before the IBA Pty Ltd’s Grand Slam Series (GSS) and Grand Qualifying Series (GQS).
This one-world tour will allow athletes to choose which events to compete in and will also lower the financial costs of the athlete and the event promoter as this was a major hurdle in 2013.
The APB tentative calendar:
Event 1:  Pipeline, Hawaii, 12-28 February
Event 2:  Arica, Chile May
Event 3:  Antofagasta, Chile May
Event 4:  Australia June
Event 5:  Itacoatiara, Brazil July
Event 6:  Sintra, Portugal September
Event 7:  Venezuela October
Event 8:  Puerto Rico October
Event 9:  Fronton, Canary Islands  November
The APB will confirm the calendar schedule of events after Pipeline event when the AGM takes place in Hawaii.
The Pipeline Challenge will be a 5 star rated event with 1800 points for first place.

Congratulations and a big Mahalo all competitors!

The IBA Hawaii Pro Bodyboarding Tour started Saturday with Day 1 of the Sandy Beach Challenge, presented by Pepsi, Kellogg’s, Science Bodyboards, MS Viper fins, Gyroll wetsuits and leashes and T&C Surf. The morning had some of the best conditions for Junior Pro Division with Noa Auweloa, Tanner McDaniel, Malino Ching and Kawika Kamai all winning their heats.

The Men’s Pro had periods of good Half Point to flat frustrating moments but local knowledge prevailed and the pro’s ripped! Rounds 1 & 2 completed with standouts like Keahi Parker, Keone Haina, Jacob Romero boosting a huge invert and Trevor Kam posting the highest score of the day with a 9.8. Men’s Pro Quarter-Final set to hit the water at 8:00am.

DK Pro will start just after that around 9:20am and we’ll see action from Jimmy Hutaff, Kawika Kamai, Alan Lamphere and more! Look for great action in the Women’s Division featuring Melanie Bartels, Liana Carson, Summer Hillen, Ayako Ancheta and others!

The IBA Hawaii Regional tour is sanctioned by IBA International (the world’s official bodyboarding organization) as a regional series and there will be four divisions in the tour:

Men’s Pro Women’s Pro Junior Pro (17 and under) Dropknee.

In addition to over $10,000 in cash and prizes, points from the 2013 IBA Hawaii Tour will be accumulated toward entry and automatic seeds into the 2014 IBA International Pipeline Pro held in February.

The tour will operate under the IBA International Rule Handbook and at the present time, 2013 will have at least two tour stops. The first competition will be held at Sandy Beach or Makapuu (South Shore Mobile) at the end of Summer and the second event will be at Keau’s (Westside Mobile) in early Winter. It is possible a third event will be held in the 2013 calendar year. Administrative and Marketing Director for the IBA Hawaii Tour Norm Skorge states, “Our goal is to put on a quality event series in the best conditions possible at great bodyboarding wave venues with sufficient holding periods to maximize rider performance.”

Former Professional and World Champion Bodyboarder Ben Severson is the IBA Hawaii Tour Event Director. “Hawaii arguably has not only the best bodyboarders but also wave conditions in the world. It just makes sense to have a professional tour here in the islands to showcase our local talent. It’s an exciting time for bodyboarders in Hawaii.” Nine Time World Champion and 11 time Pipe Champion Mike Stewart agrees, adding “There is so much local bodyboarding talent that will finally have an opportunity to show their skills and at the same time have a chance to make some cash for their efforts. My brands Science bodyboards, MS Viper and Gyroll are honored and excited about the opportunity to sponsor the IBA Hawaii Tour. We are in this for the long haul and envision building this contest series to having 6-8 events in a calendar year and tour stops on all islands. I can see the IBA Hawaii Tour progressing Hawaiian bodyboarding in a big way giving our Hawaiian talent the chance to be a huge force on the international bodyboard scene.

Bodyboarders interested in competing in the IBA Hawaii Tour should go the the tour’s Facebook page (ibahawaiitour) and “like it”. More information about the IBA Hawaii Tour and how to register for the events are coming soon.

Presenting Tour Sponsors at this time include Science Bodyboards, MS Viper Fins and Gyroll Leashes and Wetsuits. Headline and other sponsorship is being sought. Sponsorship inquiries should be sent to info@ibahawaiitour.com
